Stalking Memories

the old cathedral
on the hill that jenny
and bridget 
would sneak into 
to make
out has been 
demolished
 
it had that 
tattered tapestry of 
st. peter making a 
strange face that 
jenny thought was
kinky because she 
felt like she was 
being watched
 
do you remember 
that time
we all found a
spider crawling 
across a severed 
hand 
 
father macklemore
cried, saying it 
was a horrible 
shame the 
world had abandoned
the lord like this
 
if he knew his 
daughter kissed
a girl in that
place
 
i didn’t believe 
it could be 
destroyed
and i still 
don’t
 
whenever i look 
at that hill at night i 
see a pair of eyes 
they feel familiar
and i’m not glad to
see them but i’m
glad to know
they’re there
 
if there is a god
he left
a long time ago 
 
jenny lives in 
minneapolis with her 
girlfriend now she 
hasn’t spoken to 
her father in years i 
told her about the 
cathedral and she
laughed and tried 
to change the 
subject i want to
believe she’s gotten
out of there
even though i 
know i never will
